Building a picture of the Australian teaching workforce

The Australian Teacher Workforce Data strategy (ATWD) connects Initial Teacher Education and teacher workforce data from around Australia. It will provide a comprehensive picture of the teaching experience from entry into the profession to exit, and will help inform the future of the teaching profession.

For the first time in Australia we will have nationally consistent data on how many teachers are graduating, how many get jobs, their professional development, whether or not they stay in the profession and their career pathways.

The ATWD will deliver critical insights to support better informed decision making. It will allow us to deepen our understanding of the challenges and opportunities teachers face as a collective, and the issues we need to address together to better support the profession.

Participation is easy

We’ve partnered with every teacher regulatory authority to make sure the ATWD creates a complete picture of the Australian teaching workforce.

To address teacher data differences between states and to enrich the national consistency of the data, teachers will be invited to complete the ATWD teacher survey.
