Welcome to AITSL Skills Assessment for Migration

The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) provides skills assessment services to teachers who wish to migrate to Australia.

Migrating to a new country takes a lot of work. The material and links below provide helpful information and documents to guide you through the assessment and migration process.

What is a skills assessment?

A skills assessment determines suitability for an occupation for skilled migration purposes. AITSL is the skills assessing authority for school teacher occupations for Australia’s skilled migration program.

It is one step in the wider skilled migration process administered by the Department of Home Affairs. Occupations subject to skills assessment are listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

A skills assessment is not the same as teacher registration. Please contact the relevant Australian state or territory registration authority for information about teacher registration.

Do you need an AITSL Skills Assessment for Migration?

Visit the Department of Home Affairs for information about migration and visa requirements. There are multiple visa subclasses which may require a skills assessment. You can find out more about this at the Department of Home Affairs Skills Assessment webpage.
