The teacher explains and demonstrates how the use of an interactive whiteboard (IWB) has transformed his mathematics teaching. It allows him to reflect on what has been learned previously, it enables students to interact and take risks, and it ‘captures’ for his later reflection, the learning that has taken place. In a year 7 mathematics lesson, he uses the IWB to access additional historical resources to support students learning about the formula Pi. His students respond to the engaging and interactive manner in which he uses ICT to teach concepts in an imaginative, and innovative way.
Emmaus College is a co-educational Catholic secondary school, located in metropolitan Melbourne. The school values the use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning programs. The teacher uses an IWB in every class, and interactive software programs where appropriate to engage the learner and make the content more relevant to the students. His use of IWBs enable him to accurately review and reflect on lesson content, as all information, both teacher and student input, is captured and saved.
