Strategic reading action

Here an expert literacy practitioner works with Year 5 and 6 students at Wyndham Park Primary School. She models for a number of teachers how to improve students' comprehension strategies. One of these is to use 'Strategic reading action' which enables the student to think more deeply about character in a text.

At Wyndham Park Primary School, the Principal and leadership team support high quality professional learning opportunities for colleagues. One strategy involves expert mentoring to improve student learning in literacy. The teacher is able to demonstrate general literacy approaches and principles for teaching students to read a range of texts more purposefully. She also demonstrates how working with smaller groups can benefit and extend students who are ready to progress to higher literacy outcomes.
