A teacher leads a moderation activity with two colleagues in order to ensure that consistent and comparable judgments about student learning are made to meet curriculum and school requirements. She leads two colleagues through an assessment moderation meeting for a recent Indonesian assessment task. Each teacher has taught a year 8 class and undertaken a common assessment task with their class. Using agreed marking criteria, the teacher leads her colleagues through an examination of some recorded role-plays in order to reach agreed understandings about how the criteria should be applied within the assessment moderation.
This illustration captures footage of the team of teachers of Indonesian at Macarthur Anglican School, Cobbitty, NSW, as they participate in an assessment moderation meeting. The teachers have developed a set of rubrics on which to make common judgements about student achievement before undertaking the activity. They use film within the classroom to capture the student role-play in order to have evidence on which to make comparable judgments about student learning.
