Making money amounts

Here a primary school teacher shares how she organises and connects the activities in a mathematics session to meet the learning needs of the students. The teacher scaffolds the learning, building on prior knowledge, to help the children manipulate and make differing money amounts.

This is a year two mathematics session focusing on the concept of money.  The teacher connects the activities by using the same theme, making different money amounts, in order to strengthen students’ understanding of the concepts being taught.
