The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (Teacher Standards) and the Australian Professional Standard for Principals (Principal Standard) sit alongside the work you’re doing every day. They are frameworks to guide practice and improve learning for children and young people across schools and early childhood settings.
We’ve been asked by Education Ministers to review both the Teacher Standards and the Principal Standard. This is a timely opportunity to consider how they continue to support and reflect your work.
This review places you at the centre, with 2 opportunities for input this year. We’ll explore how the Standards remain relevant, evidence-informed, and aligned with a contemporary understanding of effective practice.

Grow in 2026 page features a range of resources to help teachers and school leaders support the diverse educational needs of students with disability, aligned with the Disability Standards for Education (DSE) 2005 and the Teacher and Principal Standards.
Supporting students to access and take part in learning is at the heart of great teaching. The support you provide each day makes a real difference – helping them feel safe, included and ready to learn. The
DSE resources support teachers and leaders to better understand inclusive practices, to ensure students with disability have equal opportunities to access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability.
