Australia’s education system has changed significantly over the past 75 years. From Stability to Saturation: 75 Years of Society and Schooling in Australia traces major shifts in society, technology, policy and schooling and shows how the environment surrounding teachers and school leaders has become increasingly complex.
The video provides historical context for the Future Teacher Future Leader initiative. Looking back at the scale and pace of past change helps us consider how education may continue to evolve and why decisions made today need to account for more than one possible future.
About the Future Teacher Future Leader initiative
Future Teacher Future Leader is AITSL’s national foresight initiative, designed to support the profession to look ahead and prepare proactively. AITSL established this initiative in late 2025 to explore what the future may mean for education.
The work does not predict a single future or propose a preferred model for Australian education. Instead, it uses a set of plausible scenarios to prompt strategic conversations about what could change, what those changes could mean and the choices that can be made today.
