Here the teacher explains how teacher confidence is key to safe and supportive learning environments when using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with students. She achieves this by supporting teachers develop small, self-contained projects that use secure ICT learning environments and supports them in their planning, teaching and evaluation until they are confident in independently using the toolset. She reinforces school and system policies in relation to student wellbeing and safety to students.
Two classes, totalling 50 students, are trialling a small project in Mathematics. The teacher has the knowledge and skills to assist the subject teachers ensure that the content is engaging, and that the use of ICT is pedagogically sound. She models for them how to create a secure and safe physical and virtual environment, and actively leads evaluation and feedback. Before the lesson begins, she reinforces to students the need for responsible online behaviour, as the activity requires them to use school-approved digital applications and to comment in shared online discussions.
