Introduction to the Engaging in P&D resources

This short video introduces the 2016 Performance and Development resources toolkit.

In order to improve their practice, teachers need:

• documented and regularly reviewed goals
• ways of measuring progress
• evidence from multiple sources to reflect on performance, including through classroom observation
• access to high quality professional learning to support development
• regular formal and informal feedback.

A strong and supportive culture will help to ensure that teachers get the most out of the performance and development opportunities at their school.

• clear understanding of effective teaching
• focus on student outcomes
• leadership
• flexibility
• coherence.

While it is acknowledged that principals have a central role in creating these conditions they cannot be driven by one person alone. A truly effective approach is characterised by a shared commitment amongst teachers to take control of their own development.
