Reconciliation at AITSL

As an organisation – and as individuals – we promote our reconciliation journey, including achieving the actions set out in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

We are committed to growing our skills and knowledge to promote respect for the languages, histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our current Innovate RAP is just one way we can support teachers and leaders in their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; and in sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, history and culture with all students. The RAP outlines our commitment to reconciliation and our journey to becoming a more culturally responsive organisation that will have a lasting impact on Australian education.

AITSL has had a RAP since 2014. The development of our current Innovate RAP is nearing completion and we expect to release it in late 2025.

Our RAP features the artwork, Ngar-wu lotjpa yapaneyepuk ‘to listen and yarn together’ (2024) by Bayadherra – Luke and Siena Tieri. This artwork expresses engagement, connection and journey towards reconciliation. The large yarning circles are central to the artwork and represent the AITSL and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
