Welcome

AITSL provides national leadership for the Commonwealth, state and territory governments in promoting excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership.

The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) came into being on 1 January 2010. The Commonwealth Minister for Education has outlined SCSEEC's priorities for the Institute in a Letter of Expectation signed on 15 January 2013.

AITSL has responsibility for:

  • rigorous professional standards
  • fostering and driving high quality professional development for teachers and school leaders
  • working collaboratively across jurisdictions and engaging with key professional bodies.

The AITSL Board held its most recent meeting on 28 February 2013.

  • Evaluation of the Standards

    AITSL has commenced work with the University of Melbourne, and their partner, the Australian College of Educators, to undertake a process and impact evaluation of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers from 2013 to 2015.

  • Supervising Preservice Teachers

    Supervising Preservice Teachers

    AITSL’s online professional learning program, Supervising Preservice Teachers, is now live at AITSL’s Learning Centre. The Supervising Preservice Teachers modules are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of those who supervise preservice teachers during a professional experience placement. The program’s flexible learning design includes multimedia resources, scenario based problems, and opportunities to share learning with teachers from across Australia.

    Registration is free for Australian school education professionals.
