The contribution that more than 328,000 teachers make to the development of young minds in classrooms across Australia is being celebrated today.

Friday October 25 is World Teachers’ Day and the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) is marking the day by promoting the theme: Teaching A Bright Future.

‘Today we celebrate the bright future that our teachers give to their students, but also the bright future of the profession itself,’ said AITSL CEO Mark Grant.

Teaching is a challenging but rewarding profession.

Taking part in World Teachers’ Day is a great way to show appreciation for teachers while acknowledging the thriving teaching profession and its bright future.

AITSL is encouraging all Australians to join our #brightfuture campaign by sharing a sunglasses selfie on social media to show support for the teaching profession.

‘To coincide with World Teachers’ Day, AITSL is today launching a newly refreshed teacher induction app to help freshly graduated teachers gain the confidence they need to begin their career on the front foot,’ Mr Grant said.

‘The My Induction app provides new graduates with insights from expert teachers, interactive activities to help new teachers step into the classroom with confidence, prompts to ignite conversations with mentors, and a tool that helps new teachers track their wellbeing from day one.

‘Beginning teachers particularly need colleagues who are alert to their needs and can support them in their professional learning.

‘Access to quality professional learning and ensuring that schools have established induction programs are two factors that can make a big difference to a rewarding teaching career.’

Chair Laureate Professor John Hattie is also getting behind World Teachers’ Day, ‘Today is a perfect opportunity for the community to take a moment to thank our teachers for their incredible efforts in and out of the classroom.

‘In so many ways, everything we do to better equip our teachers to be the best they can be in the classroom is an investment in the future prosperity of the country.’
