The ATWD will unite and link data annually from the following sources:

  • State and Territory Teacher Regulatory Authorities
  • Australian Government Department of Education
  • ATWD Teacher Survey.

Data for individuals across each of these sources will be linked and the AIHW will remove all personal information. Individual teachers will not be identifiable in the ATWD.

Teacher Regulatory Authorities

Registration data

Teacher regulatory authorities (TRAs), the state and territory bodies responsible for teacher registration in Australia, are key partners in the implementation of the ATWD. They will provide important workforce information that covers all teachers across all sectors, states and territories, delivering valuable insights into the national teacher workforce. All teacher registration data will be de-identified by the AIHW before being incorporated into the ATWD.
Australian Government Department of Education & Training

Initial Teacher Education data

Students enrolled in initial teacher education contribute data to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training’s Higher Education Student Data Collection (HESDC) and also receive an invitation to complete the Quality Indicators for Learning (QILT) survey. Both of these collections are included in the ATWD to provide insight into the outcomes and experience of initial teacher education. All HESDC and QILT data will be de-identified by the AIHW before being incorporated into the ATWD.
Teacher voice in the ATWD

ATWD Teacher Survey data

All teachers will be invited to voluntarily participate in the annual ATWD Teacher Survey. The TRAs will be joining the ATWD at different times, so teachers may be invited to participate at different times.
