In September 2017, the Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham, announced that AITSL had been tasked with developing “pre-principal certification” to better prepare aspiring principals for the role.

We know that after teaching, leadership is the second largest in-school influence on student outcomes. Principals need to be well-prepared if they are to make an effective start in the role and have maximum impact on learning.

To help support principal preparation, AITSL is working with the profession – and has been for some time – to design a national, voluntary process for assessing if an individual is ready to step into a principal role.

Below are responses to some of the most common queries we have received about pre-appointment principal certification. Alternatively, watch the video for a brief overview.
