AITSL Board of Directors Membership Update

Membership Update

We are pleased to announce that we have welcomed two new Directors, Mr Malcolm Elliott and Mr Tim Bullard, as well as the reappointment of Ms Renez Lammon. We also bid farewell to two longstanding Directors, Dr Peter Lind and Mr Robert Nairn.

New Appointments

AITSL is extremely fortunate to welcome to the AITSL Board Mr Elliott for a three-year term commencing 1 August 2020 and Mr Bullard for a three-year term, commencing 1 October 2020.

Mr Malcolm Elliott

Mr Elliott, President of the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA), brings to the AITSL Board extensive experience in the education sector, with a strong focus on teaching assessment, school leadership development, and principal health and wellbeing. For the last four years, he has been president of the Tasmanian Principals Association and also served on the National Advisory Council of APPA, the National Executive Council of the Australian Government Primary Principals Association, and the Board and Committee of the Australian Secondary Principals Association.

Mr Tim Bullard

As Secretary of the Tasmanian Department of Education, Mr Bullard has a wealth of policy and government-sector experience. His experience leading education policy work for both the Tasmanian and Australian Governments, and his work to progress his Department’s commitment to inspire and support all learners to succeed as connected, resilient, creative, and curious thinkers will be invaluable to the AITSL Board.

Reappointments

After serving on the AITSL Board for two years, we are pleased to announce that Ms Lammon has been reappointed for a further three-year term. As an Assistant Principal and Lead Impact Coach, Ms Lammon gives voice to the teaching profession on the AITSL Board and provides invaluable insights that help the AITSL Board keep its finger on the pulse. Ms Lammon has also been engaged in AITSL’s Indigenous cultural competency project and her expertise has helped shaped AITSL’s ongoing commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.

Ms Lammon is passionate about unleashing the expertise already in place in schools across the country. She also understands the importance of evidence and the national professional standards in supporting teachers to recognise and articulate their impact. We look forward to having Ms Lammon on the AITSL Board for another three years.

Retiring Directors

It is with a heavy heart we bid farewell to two of our Directors, whose terms expired in June 2020. Dr Lind’s and Mr Nairn’s contributions to the AITSL Board and commitment to AITSL have had significant impact on our work agenda over the past five years. We would like to thank them wholeheartedly for their dedication to AITSL and our objectives.

Mr Robert Nairn

Mr Nairn was a member of the AITSL Board for over five years. In that time has was not only a Director, but also Chair of the School Leadership and Teaching Expert Standing Committee, a Member of the Audit and Risk Committee, AITSL’s representative on the Australian Teacher Workforce Data (ATWD) Oversight Board, and a member of AITSL’s Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group.

Mr Nairn’s passion for shaping the direction of educational reform and ensuring every school has a leader providing high-quality education to all young people, regardless of their geographic, social, or personal circumstances has been a driving positive force at AITSL.

Mr Nairn’s expertise and experience will be sorely missed on the AITSL Board, but we look forward to continuing to work with him in other capacities to progress AITSL’s work agenda and national impact.

Dr Peter Lind

Dr Lind joined the AITSL Board in 2018. He not only acted as a Director, but also Chair of the Teacher Qualifications Expert Standing Committee, a Member of the Finance Committee, and a Board Observer on the Teacher Education Expert Standing Committee. He brought to the AITSL Board a wealth of practical and academic experience throughout the education sector as well as national and international expertise on teacher regulation and accreditation. Dr Lind’s advice to the AITSL Board and its various committees has helped shape AITSL’s work on a number of projects, including teacher registration, assessment for migration, and initial teacher education accreditation.

We will greatly miss Dr Lind’s presence on the AITSL Board and in the Australian education landscape, now he has repatriated to New Zealand. We hope to continue to benefit from his advice and expertise in the future.
