What is Leading Australia's Schools?

Leading Australia's Schools is a challenging national leadership development program for principals from across Australia. Its aim is to build the professional knowledge and leadership skills of school principals to increase their capacity to lead schools effectively in the 21st century.

Two courses will run in 2009.

Course 1
26 April - 1 May and 29 July - 31 July 2009
Course 2
17 May - 22 May and 30 August - 1 September 2009

The program has been run by the Hay Group and the University of Melbourne in partnership with Teaching Australia since 2006. Each year, two cohorts of about 40 principals have participated in the program, which involves a residential component and an individual challenge project.
An evaluation of the program was undertaken by Atelier Learning Solutions in 2007, found that:

"The Leading Australia's Schools program is a highly strategic response to effectively meeting the high order learning needs of Australian principals. The program offers insights, understandings and 'ways forward' that participating principals endorse overwhelmingly" (Atelier, p.31).
