AITSL Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership

Consultation

2010 National Stakeholder Forums

AITSL held its second National Stakeholder Forum in Brisbane on Tuesday 30 November 2010. Over 140 stakeholders, including representatives of national professional education organisations, government and non government sectors, the deans of education, the teacher registration bodies, the teachers unions and the principal associations, teachers and parents, attended the forum and met with Directors of the AITSL Board to discuss national education policy and reform.

The forum focussed on the challenges facing the teaching profession and practising teachers and school leaders and explored the key themes of measuring and recognising effective teaching and professional learning. Key speakers opened up these conversations with stakeholders helping to shape the direction of AITSL's work in 2011.

The Chair and CEO of AITSL took the opportunity to outline our work to date on the development of the National Professional Standards for Teachers, the accreditation of initial teacher education programs, the move towards nationally consistent registration of teachers and the development of the National Standard for Principals.

Stakeholders have been working with AITSL on a number of expert working and steering groups and are encouraged to continue to work with us on future developments.
