AITSL convened a national Leadership Symposium in June 2011 focussed on the ten pilot studies undertaken to test the exposure draft of the National Professional Standard for Principals. The Symposium was the culmination of a highly consultative development process that took into account feedback from Australian and international leaders and experts in the field of education.
Education leaders from the government and non-government sectors and key interest groups from across Australia attended the Symposium along with three international keynote speakers; Dame Pat Collarbone from Britain, Dr Sandra Stein from the United States and New Zealand’s Professor Jan Robertson, all of whom are acknowledged experts in the field of school leadership and the development of professional standards.
On 8 July 2011 Ministers at the MCEECDYA meeting in Melbourne endorsed Australia’s first national standard for principals.
