Professor Bill Louden is Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Western Australia and Chair of the Curriculum Council, WA. He has worked as a secondary English teacher, in curriculum and policy roles in the WA Department of Education, and as a university teacher, researcher and dean of education. His research interests include literacy, standards and educational change, and his recent research has sought to identify classroom teaching practices that most contribute to students’ intellectual growth. Professor Louden was a member of the National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy and chaired the WA Government’s Literacy and Numeracy Review Taskforce.

He has been a member of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority since its establishment. A Fellow of the Australian College of Educators, Professor Louden holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, and Arts and Education degrees from the University of Western Australia and Murdoch University, respectively.
