Early childhood teachers and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers

These Illustrations of Practice have been developed to support early childhood teachers working in a range of settings to use the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in their practice. For consistency and connection with school settings, Illustrations related to the teaching of children in the Foundation year of school are also included.

With increasing use of the Standards in early childhood settings across Australia, a glossary has been produced to further support application of the Standards in these contexts.

As use of the Standards is different in each State and Territory, early childhood teachers are encouraged to check the information provided by their State or Territory regulatory authority for information relevant to their context. A list of the regulatory authorities can be viewed here.
